Marrow
Marrow is a neighborhood butcher shop and restaurant in Detroit’s West Village. Whether you dine with them or grab something to cook at home, their mission is to support a healthy, local, and sustainable food system. The assignment was to create their full branding system prior to their launch.
The branding package was heavily inspired by butcher shop signage of the past. The logo consists of custom typography, inspired by vintage letterforms from archival butcher shop photographs. That same nostalgic charm is brought to life through secondary graphics, which are hand-painted in black ink and can be found on posters, post cards, and tote bags. The color palette is a mixture of core neutrals and green accents to highlight the sustainability mission of the brand.
In 2018, Eater named them Detroit’s Restaurant of the Year. In early 2019, they became a James Beard Award semifinalist in the Best New Restaurant category.
